New workstreams to meet operator requirements

At a packed and interactive session in Rome, carrier Champions outlined six new work programs designed to ease and speed small cell deployment, focus on developing technical solutions for HetNet integration, and establish requirements for 5G. These work items are:

  • Small cells in the Enterprise
  • Licence exempt spectrum
  • HetNet & SON
  • Virtualization of small cells
  • Multi-Operator support
  • The role of small cells in 5G, IOT & M2M

Each workstream has an operator and industry vendor Champion and aims to deliver practical and deployable innovation that will be released to the operator and industry vendor ecosystem licence-free through the Forum's Release Program. As part of Champions Day, and in the SCF plenary that followed, each ‘Champion’ contributed to a genuinely inspiring session with an absolute focus on commercializing the technology.

SCF Working Groups collaborate with Champions

A packed and productive two day plenary followed Champions Day. Our Working Groups collaborated with operator advocates, identified and prioritized work items and agreed deliverables on our work around Licence Exempt, Virtualization, HetNet & SON, Multi-Operator, Enterprise and 5G, M2M & IoT. We have an exciting publication schedule planned for the next 12 months, beginning with Enterprise outputs at MWC 2016 and a major HetNet Release at Small Cells World Summit in May.
