Towards sustainable cellular infrastructure

Why this work matters

As societies increasingly rely on seamless and widespread mobile connectivity, the sustainability of network infrastructure becomes a critical concern, encompassing ecological considerations, as well as complex and uncharted economic and societal interdependencies.

Scope

The aim of SCF’s policy work on sustainable infrastructure is to take as its starting point an assumption that successful policy and implementation must be based on a long-term roadmap, taking into account economic, societal, and environmental sustainability. A sustainable future for communications technology relies on a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between these dimensions, acknowledging their interdependencies and guiding policy development towards a balanced, forward-looking, and enduring strategy. Our aim is to support the reduction of our industry’s carbon footprint while avoiding the unintended consequences of poorly informed regulation.
