Small Cell Forum Appoints Sue Monahan as CEO
London, UK – 2nd April 2014 – The Small Cell Forum, the independent industry and operator association that supports small cell deployment worldwide, has today appointed Sue Monahan as its CEO. Sue – who is also Director for GSMA North America – brings over 20 years of experience in telecoms with her to the role, and will support the Forum’s existing Chairman and regional vice-Chairs in its day to day management.
Sue joins the Forum having held numerous senior roles at firms including AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Telcordia, as well as over 10 years as Director for GSMA North America; a position she will continue in alongside her new function at the Small Cell Forum.
As CEO, Sue will be responsible for carrier engagement and recruitment, and interactions with partner organizations. She will also take on management and senior-level interactions with the Forum’s many working and technical groups, helping guide the Small Cell Forum as it continues to deliver its Release Program which provides operators with the information they need to deploy small cells.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Sue to the Small Cell Forum,” said Gordon Mansfield, Chairman of the Small Cell Forum. “The relationships she has cultivated in her work over the years with organizations such as the GSMA and 4G Americas will be a huge boost for the Forum. I look forward to working closely with Sue as we continue to support the mobile industry as it deploys greater and greater numbers of small cells.”
“In the past year we have seen small cell deployments continue apace, changing the very shape of mobile networks far beyond anything we could have hoped for even five years ago,” said Sue Monahan, the newly appointed Small Cell Forum CEO. “The role that the Small Cell Forum has played in the success of the industry cannot be overstated. I’m truly honored to have joined the Forum and I am excited to help build on an already excellent track record.”
The Small Cell Forum is currently working on Release Four of its Release Program, on schedule for publication in June at Small Cells World Summit in London. This will provide additional technical and business detail for the urban small cell use case initially covered in Release Three, which was launched in February. It will draw from the work of the Forum’s technical groups and real world deployments of its leading-edge operators to provide the industry with the tools it needs to roll out urban small cells.
About the Small Cell Forum
The Small Cell Forum (www.smallcellforum.org), supports the wide-scale adoption of small cells. Small cells are low-power wireless access points that operate in licensed spectrum, are operator-managed and feature edge-based intelligence. They include technologies variously described as femtocells, picocells, microcells and metrocells. The Forum has in excess of 150 members including 68 operators representing more than 3 billion mobile subscribers – 46 per cent of the global total – as well as telecoms hardware and software vendors, ecosystem partners, content providers and innovative start-ups.
