SCF Mobile Network Awards winner spotlight: ITRI
ITRI, together with partners Pegatron and NTTE, was recognised in the SCF Mobile Network Awards 2026 for its Mobility-Aware QoS Assurance in Private Networks solution, winning the category for Outstanding software and services, products or technology.
While many private network deployments focus primarily on coverage, capacity and average performance, ITRI’s winning solution addresses the challenge of maintaining service quality as mobile devices move across cell boundaries and through areas affected by inter-cell interference.
This is particularly important as an increasing number of enterprise applications depend on mobile devices rather than fixed equipment, including automated guided vehicles, autonomous mobile robots, smart inspection vehicles and drones. For these applications, service degradation during mobility can affect operational continuity, task execution, safety and reliability.
Commenting on the entry, the panel of judges said: “ITRI worked with partners to address a key challenge of many enterprise networks, supporting full mobility with no compromise in quality and reliability even for critical applications.”
Developed through collaboration between ITRI, Pegatron and NTTE, the winning solution incorporates ITRI’s Athena Orchestrator platform within an Open RAN architecture. It uses software-based interference mitigation to dynamically adjust radio resource allocation according to network conditions, helping address the impact of inter-cell interference on devices moving between cells.
The solution was evaluated in a mobility test environment using two radio units and a device mounted on a remote-controlled vehicle. Across 24 test cases, the team compared performance with and without the interference mitigation software enabled. In repeated round-trip mobility tests, enabling the software increased average throughput from 18.8 Mbps to 29.3 Mbps, an improvement of approximately 56%. These results demonstrate improved average throughput under the tested mobility conditions and provide a basis for further evaluation of service quality across a wider range of deployment scenarios.
Wan-Yi Lin, Technical Manager at ITRI, said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition together with Pegatron and NTTE. For enterprise private networks, maintaining connectivity as devices move between cells is essential to supporting mobile automation. This project demonstrates how Athena Orchestrator, combined with an open architecture and software-based interference mitigation, can improve throughput under challenging mobility conditions. We look forward to working with our partners to extend validation to more operational environments and advance private networks that support the needs of mobile industrial applications.”
The award highlights the growing importance of service quality during mobility in enterprise private networks. ITRI’s winning project demonstrates how open architectures and software-based network control can improve performance in tested mobility scenarios, supporting continued development towards the more demanding connectivity requirements of industrial applications.
